Having just completed our Farmhouse Development in the Somerset countryside, we’ve been exploring the county beyond the project itself—discovering the shops, galleries, and restaurants that make Somerset a rich source of inspiration for interior design.
It’s a county where historic buildings are constantly being reimagined, where traditional craft meets contemporary design, and where interiors often tell the story of their setting. For interior designers like us, Somerset offers endless ideas to draw from.
Here are some of the destinations we’ve found most inspiring:
KILVER COURT
Kilver Court brings together interiors, fashion, and lifestyle in a striking former industrial setting just outside Shepton Mallet. Its landscaped gardens are a delight to explore, while shops like Makers & Merchants and Toast showcase carefully curated homewares and lifestyle pieces. There’s also a café with a seasonal menu, where the interiors feel relaxed and considered, echoing the care of the surrounding gardens.
BRUTON AND AROUND
Hauser & Wirth, Bruton
Set within beautifully restored farm buildings, Hauser & Wirth showcases world-class contemporary art, craft, and design, with ever-changing exhibitions ranging from internationally renowned artists to site-specific installations. The estate’s landscaped gardens provide a peaceful setting to explore.
A new on-site restaurant, Da Costa, serves wonderful Northern Italian food, using seasonal ingredients from Durslade Farm. The interiors by Laplace feel warm and inviting, with rustic touches and an open kitchen that make it a lively, welcoming place to eat.

Osip Restaurant, Bruton
Osip is a Michelin-starred, farm-to-table restaurant set in a restored 1730s pub. Designed by Bruton-based architects Bindloss Dawes, the space uses local materials, including timber and earthenware floors, to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Large windows and an open kitchen enhance the dining experience, blending thoughtful design with beautiful, seasonal cuisine.
At the Chapel, Bruton
Housed in a converted 17th-century chapel, this restaurant, bakery, and hotel has become a Somerset landmark. The soaring ceilings and clean, modern interiors show how heritage architecture can be reimagined with contemporary design.

The Space at Caro, Bruton
The Space is a boutique B&B, an offshoot of Caro, the design shop that was once based in Bruton but now operates online only. The interiors are stylish and considered, reflecting Natalie Jones’ background in interior styling. The suite includes a kitchenette and en suite bathroom, and guests enjoy breakfast at the nearby At the Chapel. It’s a perfect base for exploring Bruton’s creative scene.
The Newt Shop, Hadspen
Most people have heard of The Newt gardens, but fewer know about its on-site store, which offers a carefully curated mix of fresh produce, pantry essentials, and homewares. Everything feels considered, reflecting the estate’s focus on quality, craft, and thoughtful design. It’s a place that’s both practical and inspiring, whether for home design or lifestyle.

The Creamery, Castle Cary
Part of the Newt estate, The Creamery is set in a restored 1912 factory at Castle Cary Station. Renovated by Stonewood Design, the building combines original brickwork and its landmark chimney with striking glass additions that flood the interiors with light. Inside, the café serves dishes and traditional dairy products made from the estate’s own water buffalo.
FROME
Frome Independent Market
A favourite among interior designers for discovering one-off pieces, The Frome Independent Market takes over the town centre on the first Sunday of each month (March–December). With over 200 stalls selling artisan food, handmade crafts, vintage collectibles, and clothing, it’s full of unexpected finds and has a buzzing, creative atmosphere.

Pedestal Gallery
Pedestal Gallery is a small but inspiring space in Frome, showcasing beautiful contemporary art and ceramics. With a thoughtfully curated selection by emerging and established artists, it’s a great spot to discover striking, unique pieces.
