EXPLORING SOUTH WEST DESIGN DESTINATIONS WITHIN AN HOUR OF BRISTOL: INTERIOR DESIGNER'S PICKS

Frances Gallery Bath, interior design inspiration

We’re always on the lookout for new sources of inspiration, and the Southwest offers some incredible places to explore. Here are a few of our favourite design destinations in the Southwest within an hour of Bristol, where we often find elements that help shape and refine our interior design projects.

A New Tribe, Bristol

A New Tribe recently opened in South Bristol, moving from its original home in Hackney, London. They offer an eclectic mix of ceramics, textiles, rugs, and homewares. The shop’s collection is carefully curated, with each piece bringing a sense of individuality without overwhelming the space. The store is a great source of inspiration for both statement pieces and those subtle finishing touches that make a room feel complete.

Shepton Mallet Antiques Market

Shepton Mallet Antiques Market in Somerset is one of the best in the region, and one of our favourite places to source vintage pieces for our interiors. It’s a sprawling, vibrant market filled with a wide variety of vintage furniture, ceramics, art pieces and curios. We enjoy wandering through the stalls, hunting for those rare, one-of-a-kind pieces with a strong sense of history.

No.8 Holland Street, Bath

No.8 Holland Street in Bath is a gallery and design store that brings together a carefully selected mix of twentieth-century British art, vintage European furniture, and global textiles. The space has a welcoming, lived-in feel, and it’s a place where we find both rare treasures and everyday objects that tell a story. It’s the perfect place to visit when we’re looking to create an interior with personality and history.

Magalleria, Bath

For those who appreciate design magazines, or any interior designer, Magalleria is a must-visit. Located in the heart of Bath, this independent boutique has been a go-to for design enthusiasts for over a decade. The shop’s carefully curated collection of magazines is a great way to keep up with design trends, discover new ideas, and find inspiration for all aspects of interior design.

Francis Gallery, Bath

Francis Gallery, located in a Georgian townhouse in Bath, feels more like a home than a traditional gallery. Designed by the founder of Cereal Magazine, Rosa Park, and furniture designer Fred Rigby, it’s a space that demonstrates how art and interiors can seamlessly coexist. The gallery blends contemporary art, antiques, and ceramics in a way that feels intimate and approachable.

Etalage, Gloucestershire

Etalage, based in the Cotswolds, is a favourite for sourcing artwork. They offer a wide range of pieces including vintage oil paintings, rare prints, and contemporary works. Whether we’re looking for a statement piece or something more subtle to complete a room, Etalage consistently delivers unique and inspiring finds.

Hauser and Wirth, Bruton

Hauser & Wirth Somerset is a world-class gallery and arts centre set in the Bruton countryside, offering cutting-edge contemporary art exhibitions, alongside beautiful landscaped gardens designed by Piet Oudolf.

It’s a rich source of inspiration, showing how art, nature and architecture can work together to create something extraordinary.

Each of these destinations has something special to offer, whether it’s the thoughtful curation, or unique objects to layer into our interiors.
